Publication Ethics Policy
This Publication Ethics Policy outlines the ethical standards expected of authors, editors, reviewers and all others associated with the Indian Journal of Legal Affairs and Research (IJLAR). The policy is broadly informed by recognised international best practices in scholarly publishing.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
- Submit only original work that has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
- Ensure that data, arguments and conclusions are presented accurately and honestly.
- Provide appropriate citations and references for all sources relied upon.
- Identify all individuals who have contributed significantly as authors or co-authors.
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest, funding sources or affiliations relevant to the manuscript.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
- Make publication decisions based on scholarly merit, relevance and the journal's scope.
- Ensure fair and impartial treatment of all submissions, without discrimination.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities, as appropriate.
- Address complaints or ethical concerns promptly and transparently, following due process.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Provide objective, constructive and timely feedback on manuscripts assigned for review.
- Maintain confidentiality of the review process and not misuse any information obtained.
- Declare conflicts of interest and decline review where impartiality may be compromised.
- Refrain from any form of plagiarism or misappropriation of ideas from manuscripts under review.
4. Conflicts of Interest
Conflicts of interest may arise where authors, editors or reviewers have financial, professional or personal relationships that could influence their judgement. All parties are expected to:
- Declare any relevant conflicts at the earliest opportunity.
- Refrain from participating in decisions where such conflicts cannot be appropriately managed.
5. Misconduct and Corrections
Allegations of research or publication misconduct (including fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research practices or improper authorship) will be examined by the editorial team, which may:
- Seek explanations or supporting information from the parties involved.
- Reject submissions found to be in breach of ethical standards.
- Issue corrections, expressions of concern or retractions for published content, where necessary.
6. Data Availability and Transparency
Where applicable, authors may be requested to provide additional information or supporting documentation to verify data, legal sources or empirical claims. Authors are encouraged to maintain appropriate records and, where feasible, to support transparency in research.
7. Policy Review
IJLAR may revise this Publication Ethics Policy periodically to reflect evolving best practices and regulatory expectations. The version available on the journal website at the time of submission will ordinarily govern the assessment of new manuscripts.
